Dredging around the new slip is also proposed Cecil Worsley Page two 9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project is located adjacent to the AIWW across Airlie Road from Gray Gables Subdivision in New Hanover County. There is a community dockage system existing on the site presently. This structure services 14 vessels with floating docks and/or mooring pilings. New Hanover County classifies the area as Conservation, limiting the use to water dependent structures. The water classification of the AIWW at this location is SB. The area is not designated Primary Nursery by the Division of Marine Fisheries, and is closed to shell fishing. The applicant proposes to add one slip to the south end of the existing floating dock. There is presently a 4' x 23' finger pier. This will be extended to 50' in length to accommodate the applicant's boat. The area around the dock for approximately 60' x 22' is to be dredged. This area will be dredged to -6' mlw to meet the depth of the adjoining slips. The bottom here has never been dredged; however, the AIWW to the east, the marina directly north, and the community dock immediately to the south have all been dredged and are maintained. The bottom is sandy and does not appear to be productive. The dredging is to be accomplished by a backhoe on a barge and deposited at an approved spoil disposal site on the north side of Bradley Creek. Permission is on file for the use of this site. Three mooring pilings will be placed 22' south of the finger pier. This will extend across the neighboring corridor. The adjacent riparian landowner, Ed Craft, has given his approval for the project, and waived the 15' setback. 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS The new portion of the finger pier will incorporate 108 square feet of open water. The dredging will disturb 1,320 square feet of bottom, and remove 150 cubic yards. There is no marsh effected by this project. Submitted by: Tere Barrett Date: June 22, 1990 Office: Wilmington QWri} 1,K Please type or print.
