Bio Report Page 2 SITE REPORT The applicant owns a 2 acre tract of land along the west bank of Pembroke Creek, adjacent to Route 17 Business in the town of Edenton. Located on the project tract are ten completed townhouse units, and a pier (120' x 6') with fourteen slips and eight finger piers (10' x 2'). Eight additional townhouse units are under construction. The soil at the site consists of a sandy fill material to a depth of approximately eight inches. Below the sandy fill is a black organic layer. It appears this layer was the original muck soil which was later buried with fill material. Vegetation on the site consists of lawn grasses and a fringe of a few Taxodium distichum (Bald Cypress). Water depth at the end of the existing pier is -5.5'. Pembroke Creek is classified Inland Water/Public Trust in the vicinity of the applicant's property. Adjacent to the applicant's tract are several private residences, each with small private piers (less than 75 ft in length). Directly across Pembroke Creek from the applicant's property is a commercial marina. The applicants wish to enlarge the existing pier space in order to provide slip space for new townhouse owners. The largest boat to be docked at the pier, after expansion, will be forty feet in length. No fueling nor waste disposal facilities exist at the site and none are proposed. Water and electricity service is provided to the pier. The applicant has a "no overnight" or "live aboard" policy. Expansion of the existing pier will consist of construction of a "T" platform (60' x 51), the addition of two finger piers (10' x 2') to the "T" platform, and driving of eight pilings a maximum of 45' waterward of the "T" platform. The pilings will be spaced fifteen feet apart. ANTICIPATED IMPACT The proposed project will cover 3,000 sq. ft. of Public Trust waters of which 300 sq. ft. will be the "T" platform, 40 i Colonial Townhouses, Inc. Hio Report Page 3 sq. ft. will be taken up by the two finger piers and 2,660 sq. ft. will be utilized for slip space. Once completed the entire facility will cover 10,320 sq. ft. of Public Trust waters. No submerged nor emergent aquatic vegetation was noted at the site. No coastal wetlands are present. Pembroke Creek is approximately 600 feet wide at the project site. The creek's main channel lies approximately 300 feet off shore. Water depth in the channel is -7 feet.
