Raleigh Regional Office
Raleigh -Durham Airport (RDU) is performing complete rehabilitation of the West RON Apron area. This
will include the demolition of the entire existing asphalt apron and access roadways, and demolition of
the existing guard shack. The airport is proposing to realign the existing sewers to facilitate the apron
expansion. The realignment will involve the relocation of one existing pump station outside of the apron
expansion area and the installation of a lift station. The project will include the installation of
approximately 193-linier feet of gravity sewer and 58-feet of force main. The pump station contains a
grinder unit and is designed for 54,000 GPD. The lift station also contains a grinder pump and is
designed for 64,800 GPD. Backup power is supplied by separate hardwired generators with automatic
activation for both the pump station and the lift station. The sewer system in this portion of RDU
ultimately discharges to the City of Cary waste water treatment plant, however since there will be no
additional flow, USE 04-16 was not needed. Information regarding flow for RDU infrastructure
downstream of the project area was initially requested- However, it was agreed in an August 24, 2018
email, that information regarding infrastructure separate from this project would be provided by RDU
in a later submittal.
The project meets all of the requirements of 15A NCAC 02T and the NCDEQ DWR Minimum Design
Criteria. Plans, specifications, and supporting documents have been prepared in accordance with 15A
NCAC 02T,15A NCAC 02T .0300, Division policies and good engineering practices. Attached is the Fast -
Track application and required documentation.
