6. Property size (acres): 1.05
7. Lake/ river/ ocean adjacent to property: Lake James
8. Describe proposed work (include discussion as to how hardening of shoreline has been
avoided, or why it is necessary):
Shoreline Stabilization Rocks will be placed in a pile at the shoreline with little to no
disturbance of the soil. A small tractor will be used to dump rock on one spot next to the
shoreline. Rocks will be place by hand onto the shoreline. A few trees will be removed to
allow the tractor to access the rock dumping location. Mulch will be placed along the path
following the stabilization.
Shoreline Stabilization is necessary due to eroding shoreline which is causing trees to fall and
soil to be washed into the lake as the banks are undercut from rain.
9. Will work be conducted from land? Rip Rap will be installed from Land. Tree removal is by
barge (Bennick). Some Marked Trees in the 65’ setback area have been approved to be
removed by Bradley Kirkley (Burke County) to allow access to our dock and to protect our
dock and house from falling trees.
10. Total amount of impacts below the normal pool lake level / Normal Water Level
Permanent impacts (including all excavation, backfill, rip rap, retaining walls, etc.) in square
feet:
Stone will be added along 136 linear feet of shoreline with enough width to allow a gradual
slope up to the non-eroded area.
Temporary impacts in square feet:
902 Square Feet Access Path; However, only a few trees will be removed and Soil should
have minimal disturbance. Any disturbance in soil will be repaired with Mulch after the
project is completed.
FORM: SSGP 02-2017 Page 3 of 7
11. Total amount of impacts above the normal pool lake level / Normal Water Level and 50 feet
land-ward
Permanent impacts (including back fill, excavation, rip rap, retaining walls, etc.) in square feet:
Marked Trees will be removed. This includes mostly pines and a couple of kalmia. Please see
attached tree removal permit from Bradley Kirkley/ Burke County Zoning Administrator. No
Excavation, no Backfill, No retaining walls. Only rip rap will be added.
12. Temporary impacts (temporary clearing, construction corridor) in square feet: There will be
no temporary clearing. A few small trees along the corridor will be removed. They are not
required to be replanted. Ground surface mulch will be restored after completion.
13. Please describe the vegetation above the normal pool lake level/ Normal Water Level and 50
feet landward to be impacted (number of trees, for instance): A few Smaller Trees along the
14’ Construction Access Corridor and about a dozen larger pine trees that are threatening our
dock will be removed by Bennick Grading and Excavation, as agreed to by Bradley Kirkley with
Burke County.
