8. PROJECT SUMMARY: Applicant plans to maintain existing ditch,
construct upland boat basin and boat ramp, and bulkhead canal and
boat basin 270'.
FIELD INVESTIGATION REPORT - JULIAN GILGO, CARTERET COUNTY
PAGE #2 _
9. NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION:
The applicant owns property in
Davis, Carteret County, off an old mosquito ditch leading to
Core Sound. This area is classified as 'SA' waters and are
open to shellfishing.
Property location of this project would be Davis, Carteret
County, go to the intersection in Davis, on Hwy. 70 E., turn
left, go approximately 1/2 mile, the property is on the
right. This property is located approximately 200' south of
the Davis Community Harbor.
The applicant proposes to dredge maintenance an existing
mosquito canal approximately 175' long x 10' wide and 4„'
deep. This would not increase the existing dimensions of
the canal at all. Applicant also proposes to dig an upland
basin or boat harbor and install a boat ramp. This work
would be done in 1404' wetlands. The applicant proposes all
dredge material to be placed directly in trucks and hauled
to a highground disposal site area approved by the COE
office and the DCM office. A boat ramp constructed of
salt-treated material is proposed after the boat basin is
dug.
Bulkheading is proposed along the access channel and boat
harbor. No backfill is proposed along the bulkhead
alignment.
No building or any other construction is proposed on the
site at the present time.
10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS: Anticipated impacts of this project
should be minimal due to the fact that the majority of the
work would be maintenance of the access channel canal. The
boat harbor and ramp would be constructed in 1404' wetlands
with all dredge material placed directly in a truck and
hauled to a highground disposal site approved by the COE
office and the DCM office. No relaying of material is
proposed. The boat ramp would be constructed of salt
treated material eliminating any filling or pouring of
concrete in this area. The bulkhead would be salt-treated
- with no backfill which would eliminate any impacts on the
1404' areas. No coastal wetlands are involved on this site.
