PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant proposes to construct 97 ft. of bulkhead an average distance of 7 ft_. waterward of the 14j& (with a maximum of 10 ft.), tieing into the existing bulkhead of1the adjoining properties. I nald P. Cronoaue F PROJECT SITE Lot 19 Currituck County on TYPE OF STRUCTURES: EXISTING PLANNED Private residence Lat:36026130" Long:75057145" Section A Canvasback Trail ?5?/N?TON 4) e Currituck Sound. IPhoto r F/cE Ronald P. Cronogue Bio Report Page 2 Site Report The applicant, Ronald P. Cronogue, owns approximately a Z acre lot (21,000 sq. ft.) on Canvasback Trail, off of SR 1245, on Bell's Island, Currituck County. The lot lies on the Currituck Sound and is part of an established residentia]. subdivision. Both adjoining lots are bulkheaded. Vegetation on the lot consist of a small number of trees, mostly Pinus taeda (loblolly pine), Betula nigra'(River Birch) and Juniperus virginiana (Eastern Red Cedar). The: ground cover consists of grasses (yellow foxtail, crabgrass, tall fescue) and broad leafed weeds (plantains, mullein, etc.). rt'he lot lies +3 ft. above MHW (mean high water). The soil is a loamy sand on the surface (0 to 4 inches), a coarse sand (from 4 to approximately 15 inches) and a sandy clay below 15 inches. t1 evidence of mottling or anoxic character were noted in the topi20 inches of the soil profile. The 1982 Soil Survey of Currituck County classifies this soil as Conetoe loamy sand. Twelve feet waterward of the property's shoreline embankment the water is approximately -10 inches deep. There was neither emerged nor submerged aquatic vegetation along the 'shoreline out to twelve feet. The applicant proposes to construct 97 feet of bulkhead an average of 5 feet waterward of the NWL (normal waterline). The applicant claims the property has historically eroded an average of 5 ft. per year. The proposed alignment Will allow the applicant to tie his bulkhead to his adjoining neighbors' bulkheads. (It is my belief that the proposed alignment will require aligning the bulkhead an average of 7 ft.' with a maximum distance waterward of the NWL of 10 ft.) The applicant proposes to construct his bulkhead with approved materials.' Anticipate Impacts Bulkheading the property along the prepared alignment will result in the filling of approximately 679 sq. ft. of public trust waters/shallow water habitat. No wetlands or aquatic vegetation will be affected. The proposed alignment t will allow for a bulkheaded shoreline with no sharp angles which will trap floating debris. CAMA Reviews This project is consistent with the Currituc}, County LUP classification of rural. No archeological significance has been attached to this project area. Submitted by: Richard L.
