Marshall Steam Station (NC0004987) — Catawba County
Dear Mr. Poupart,
In accordance with the requirements of Part III, Section D of the NPDES Wastewater permit
NC0004987, Duke Energy Carolinas,LLC(DEC)is hereby providing notice of closure for wastewater
treatment components at Marshall Steam Station in Catawba County, NC. As part of a Water
Re-route project being undertaken to assure compliance with the North Carolina
Coal Ash Management Act (CAMA) and the federal Coal Combustion Residual (CCR)
rule for this facility, DEC will be starting the closure process for the Constructed Wetlands
(and Internal Outfall 004) by end of February 2019. The ongoing flows from FGD will be
redirected to the newly permitted FGD WWTP (internal outfall 006).
More details regarding final removal of the Constructed Wetlands will be communicated via
email once plans are finalized.
Please accept this letter as meeting the permit requirement to provide 90 day notice of
closure for a wastewater treatment system. If you have any questions regarding the closure
