Thorou hfare Swam off-site detour planned, assume no improvements .
SUMMARY OF HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPES REVIEW
DESCR/PTlONOFREV/EWACTIV/TIES, RESULTS,ANDCONCLUSIONS: HPOWeb reviewed on 1 April 2015
and yielded no NR, SL, DE, LD or SS properties in the Area of Potential Effects (APE). Wayne County
current GIS mapping, aerial photography, and tax information indicated an APE of woodland, wetland,
cultivated fields, and several cleared residential and agricultural properties of post-1960s development
(viewed 1 April 2015). Bridge No. 96, constructed in 1954, is not eligible for the National Register
according to the NCDOT Historic Bridge Survey as it is not representative of any distinctive engineering or
aesthetic rype. A gravesite indicated on the Dobbersville USGS 7.5' quadrangle map is located
approximately 1800 feet north of the existing bridge, well outside the APE. Google Maps "Street View"
confirmed the absence of critical historic architectural and landscape resources in the APE (viewed 1 April
2015).
No architectural survev is repuired for the proiect as currently defined.
WHY THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION PROV/DESA RELIABLE BASIS FOR REASONABLY PREDICT/NG THAT
THERE ARE NO UNIDENTIFIED SIGNIFICANT HISTORICARCHITECTURAL OR LANDSCAPE RESOURCES IN
THE PROJECTAREA: APE extends 700 feet from end of the existing bridge (N-S) and 100 feet to either
side of the SR 1006 (Grantham School Road) centerline (E-W) to encompass proposed construction
activities. The comprehensive county architectural survey and related publication, as well as later
investigations, reCorded no properties in the APE (]. Daniel Pezzoni, ed. Glimpses ofWayne County, Noith Caolina -An
ArchitecturalHistory(Goldsboro: Wayne County Historical Association, 199s)). County GIS/tax materials and other
visuals support the absence of significant landscape and architectural resources. No National Register-
listed or —eligible properties are located within the APE.
Should any aspect of the project design change,
please notifv NCDOT Historic Architecture as additional review may be necessary.
