Good Afternoon,
At yesterday's field scoping, I mentioned to Stephen and Garcy briefly that I would likely
be sending a request for Beaufort 20 (B-5413) regarding the addition of impervious dike
for the temporary detour bridge. The contractor is unable to install the end bents
without dewatering due to ground water and the higher water levels of the creek. It is
only anticipated at this time to be needed on the end bent 1 side; however, we have
shown impervious dike on both end bents of the temporary bridge (please see the
attached drawing). This will greatly aid in the construction and allow water to be
pumped out. The contractor plans to use sheet piles. As you know, the grade of the
detour was set to minimize the impacts to the CAMA wetlands and the jurisdictional
stream. If you have any questions please give me or Cadmus a call. My cell phone is 252-
413-8937. The contractor is currently working on the detour bridge, anything you can do
to expedite your review would be greatly appreciated.
On a separate but very similar note, we have the same issue on Beaufort 249
(17BP.2.R.85). We are also proposing to add impervious dike (please see the attached
drawing labeled impervious dike additions); however, we will need this for the
temporary detour bridge and the new bridge. The contractor is currently working on the
temporary detour bridge. Going forward, we will require impervious dike on all projects
of a similar nature.
