9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project site is located at 5822 Greenville Loop Road, adjacent to I Iewlctts Crock. The site is located within the
City of Wilmington in Ncw 1-1anoycl' County. To locate the property from Oleander Ur. (NC: I lighwa? 17), turn onto
Greenville Loop Road and travel west past Bradley Creck Elementary School approximately 1.4 miles. Turn left
onto Alford Lane next to Greenville Loop Seafood. 'file road will terminate in the driveway of the property of
interest. The lot is approximately 4.3 acres with approximately 25 r of shoreline frontage. The lots a\ rragc 10-15
feet above mean sea level and the shoreline is currently stabilized by vegetation. 1 lighground vegetation consists of
lawn grasses and hardwood species including: Oak, Holly, Nlaple, and Pine. Lxistino structures on the property
consist ofan abandoned Angle family home. Located on the eastern end ofthe property are an existing private
pier, platlorm and floating dock, which extend approxinmtefy 280' into I-lcwlctts Creek. Located on the \\cstcrn
side riparian area arc remnant pilings Man old commercial pia that was historically used to unload I i.';hin, Wsscls
fior the Allord fish market located on Greenville Loop Rd. Waterward ofthe upland vegetation is an any olnhigh
marsh consisting of mixed coastal wetlands and' 404 type" vegetation, which includes Marsh Elder (Ho
f itlc,scens), Grounsel-bush (Bacclrurns haliinifolicr), Seaside Golden Rod (Sulirlcg scamWervirens L.), Mix Myrtle
(;1l xka cwYAw L.), Spike Grass (Dis[ichlis Ndca u) and Black Neecilerush (Jtuncns ruemel-ic mts). The property
transitions from high marsh to low marsh in an area approximately 225 fcct We towards 11cwlc"s ('reel:,
consisting primarily of Smooth Cordgma (Sjmnhw ctuwWoru). \\ aterward of the low marsh arc several areas
of oyster reels visible in the mud flat at low water.
The Wilmington/New Hanover County Land Use flan classifies adjacent wafers as Conservation, and the adjacent
high ground portion of the project area as Resource Protection. The waters of I Icwlct1s Creek are classif ic(I Sit by
the Division of Walor Quality. They are dis ignatcd as a Primary Nursery Area (PNA) by the N.C. Dig ishm of
Marine I-ishcries and they are CLOSED to the harvest ofshellfish.
