Duke Energy respectfully submits notification of elimination of all remaining Buck Steam Station waste
flows to the Yard Sump and permanent closure of the Buck Steam Station Yard Sump,as required by Part
1., Section A.(1.) e. of the NPDES Wastewater Permit NC0004774. This decommissioning activity will
render NPDES Wastewater Outfall 1002A permanently inactive and therefore present no future discharges.
Permanent closure of the Yard Sump will occur on November 16, 2018, as described below in the brief
narrative.
Powerhouse demolition occurred on October 19,2018,and anticipated flows to the yard sump will
subside. Duke Energy will plug the remaining storm drainage system to the yard sump from the
powerhouse road/yard area with flowable fill. Power to the yard sump pumps will be removed and the
pipe extending to the ash basin will be abandoned after a required air gap is established.
With these modifications, Duke Energy requests this outfall be made inactive in the eDMR system as of
