SUBJECT: Complaint Investigation of Fuel Oil in Creek
Illegal Dumping
Stanly County
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Garner:
On October 24, 2018, this Office received a complaint of fuel oil in an unnamed tributary to
Town Creek in Stanly County. The complaint was investigated by Mr. Roberto Scheller of this
Office on October 25, 2018. An on -site visit to the subject location found fuel oil residue and the
odor of fuel oil in a small stream next to the Garner's residence at 1932 Snuggs Park Road,
Albemarle. This drainage feature was followed upstream to the origin of the stream without
locating a specific source. Evidence of fuel oil was found at locations marked on the attached
USGS map labeled as 3A, 2A, 1A. The spill was followed upstream to the end of Crestview
Drive where the spill dissipated and could no longer be followed. Although at the time of the
site investigation, the source of fuel oil spill could not be found, this Office will continue to
monitor this drainage area.
