PROJECT SUMMARY: Applicant proposes to build 4 new finger piers and install 12 mooring pilings to create 9 boatslips, refurbish the existing boat ramp, and construct a boardwalk around the existing upland boat basin. Goose Creek Landing Clear Water Marketing, LLC Beaufort County Project Setting The project area is an existing upland boat basin in the Goose Creek Landing Subdivision located off SR1901 at 362 Potter Rd. adjacent to Peterson Creek, near the Town of Aurora, in Beaufort County. Goose Creek Landing is an actively developing subdivision that encompasses 57 acres with an elevation of 4 feet above the normal water level. The proposed development activities will take place on the common lot for the private use of the residence of Goose Creek Landing. Existing structures on the project site include a man-made access canal and boat basin, three docks, and a gazebo. The boat basin has been on the property in excess of ten years as evidenced in an aerial photograph from 1995 and has bulkhead running around its perimeter. The boat basin is rectangular in shape (±l 12' X ±67') with entry gained from the south side. Water depth in the boat basin ranges from ±2' to ±4'. The project site is adjacent to Peterson Creek and totally contained within the property of Goose Creek Landing Subdivision. Peterson Creek, a tributary of Lower Goose Creek, is designated an inland water body and classified as Class C/NSW by the Environmental Management Commission. Vegetation on the surrounding lots consists of Loblolly Pines that were once a part of a pine plantation, lawn grasses, and various under-story shrubs indigenous to the area. At the time of the field investigation dense beds of Rupia maritima were observed in the boat basin and entry canal. Project Description The applicant proposes to replace the three existing docks with (3) ±26' X ±4' finger piers, (1) ±32' X ±4' finger pier and 12 mooring pilings to create 9 boat slips in the existing basin. The three smaller finger piers will be located on the western side of the basin and the larger finger pier on the northern side. The existing boat ramp on the west side will be replaced with a new concrete structure ±15' X ±50'. The applicant also proposes a ±166' X ±4' wooden boardwalk for the perimeter of the boat basin. Anticipated Impacts The project as proposed will result in the filling of ±450 square feet of boat basin bottom as part of boat ramp installation/replacement. The project as proposed will result in localized, short term, turbidity as a result of the boat ramp and piling installation.
