Watts BIO REPORT Date: November 18, 1988 PAGE 2 SITE REPORT The applicant owns approximately two acres of land along the Perquimans River, Perquimans County, which he has subdivided into three lots having shorelines of 137, 133, and 153 feet respectively. Between these properties and SR 1336 (Harvey Point Road) is Mr. Riddick's home. The riverbank is high along the Perquimans River in this area averaging 10'. The land is characterized as upland and is currently farmed. The vegetation along the toe of the bank consists primarily of fescue grass (Festuca sp.), Giant Foxtail (Setaria sp.), red maple (Acer rubrum), Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda), sweet gum (Liquidamber styraflua) and Honeysuckle (Lanicera sp.). Sporadically there are a few Wax Myrtle (Myrica cerifera), and red cedar (Juniperus virginiana). A few patches of golden rod (Solidago sp.) are also present. Along the shoreline are numerous Bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) and several tupelo trees (Nyssa sp.). There are no submerged aquatic plant species in the adjoining water. Desiring a straight bulkhead, the applicant proposes to construct approximately 427 ft. of bulkhead tying into two existing bulkheads. This bulkhead would be a maximum of 10' and an average of 8'waterward of the NWL. The fill behind the bulkhead will come from the steep river bank. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS No coastal wetland species nor submerged aquatic vegetation will be impacted by this project. Construction will cause temporary turbidity in the Perquimans River. Bulkheading and grading will reduce long-term sedimentation caused by normal erosion along this property's high bluff. An estimated 3,416 sq. ft. of shallow-water habitat will be lost. Approximately 4270 disturbed when grading t cubic yards of material.
