Project Summary The applicant proposes to construct a private bridge, 175 feet in length, 14 feet wide elevated over coastal wetlands. Blondell Johnson Page Two 9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION This approximately 24 acre parcel of land is located in Brunswick County approximately 2 miles south of Belville, on the east side of NC Hwy 133. It is bordered by the Brunswick River to the east and Jackeys Creek to the south. The property consists of approximately 12 acres of wooded highground over the northern and central half of the tract. The remaining 9-12 acres consists of coastal and "404" type wetlands, within the drainage basins of Jackeys Creek to the south and the Brunswick River along the extreme eastern border. A slough of coastal wetlands, approximately 150 feet wide, transverses the highground in the northwest corner of the property. The predominant species of coastal wetlands within the slough is Typha spp• This feature isolates the majority of the property from access off NC Hwy 133. 9 The applicant proposes to construct an elevated private bridge across this wetland slough for access to his future personal residence. The application listed three residences proposed, however, only the applicant wishes to begin construction. The remaining two homesites would be reserved for future development by the applicant's children. The bridge would be 175 feet in length, including the 12 1/2 feet approach ramps at either end, and 14 feet wide. It would be constructed from treated timber and elevated above coastal wetland flora species. 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS Initial installation of the bridge support pilings will result in some minor loss of vegetation, however, no long term adverse impacts are anticipated as a result from the construction of this project.
