PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project site is located at 2005 North Sixth Street, adjacent to the shoreline of the applicant's property along the Northeast Cape Fear River. The site is occupied by Chemserve Terminal which is a storage facility for Caustic Soda. There is an existing "T"-head pier. The dimensions of the structure is approximately 170' long x 6' wide. The "T"-head measures approximately 30' x 15'. There is a pipe trestle to the side of the structure. Present docking is primarily for barge traffic. There is also a visible remnant of a pier that runs parallel to the shoreline approximately 70' waterward of the mean high water line (MHW) and extending approximately 580' in length. There is afringe of Spartina alterniflora approximately 20' wide that extend along the shoreline. The high ground structures consist mostly of several storage tanks and offices. The waters in the area are classified as SC primary nursery and are closed to the taking of shellfish. The applicant proposes to reconstruct the old pier at the same location adding a 90u extension starting at the northern location of that pier and extending waterward with A 230' long x 6' wide pier and a 20' x 10' platform. Three pipe rack will be attached to the entire length of the pier to service additional barges. Also proposed are 4 piling dolphins (see plans). 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS The applicants are at present authorized to.do other work under existing permit # 157-83 (to include dredging) which will expire on January 31, 1989. No significant adverse impacts are anticipated to result from the proposed work. Submitted by: Marc Botbol Office: Wilmington Date: October 21, 1988 Please type or print.
