Project summary applicant proposes to construct a pier adjacent to residential property located on Great Marsh Bay off SR 1356, in Marshallberg, Carteret County -- O? 9. Narrative description Applicant's property is a tract approximately 2/3 acre in size located adjacent to Great Marsh Bay off SR 1356 in the community of Marshallberg in Carteret County. The property is reached by turning east of SR 1347 onto 1356 in the vicinity of the Baptist Church, then taking the first dirt left approximately 1/2 mile to a graveyard. The applicant's property is straight ahead on the left. The property is characterized by 2-3' elevations and is vegetated by domestic yard species, pine, and live oak. The applicant's residence is at the site, along with several out buildings. The shoreline is bulkheaded landward of a marsh fringe which is approximately 25-30' wide. This marsh is composed primarily of smooth cord grass marsh. Adjacent property both upstream and downstream are bulkheaded. The applicant is proposing to construct a private residential pier at this site. The pier will be 200' long and approximately 5' wide, and the deck on the end will be 10' wide and 20' long with a tapering area of approximately 5' long (see plat for details). 10. Anticipated Impacts Conducting this project as proposed will involve some temporary short term turbidities which are normally associated with jetting of piles during pier construction. Great Marsh Bay is designated as a primary nursery area by the Division of Marine Fisheries and adjacent waters are classified as SA by the Division of Environmental Management.
