Rob;
Thanks for the reply. I've attached some documents from my site visit that were provided to the Washington Regional
Office for the staff report for the permit modification with recommendations concerning the unique situation at the
David Chatillier farm with the centipede grass. I've spoken with David Crouse at N.C. State concerning centipede
grass/pasture at the David Chatillier farm. Centipede is by no means a cool season grass and is very much a summer
grass that tolerates full sunlight and needs very little nutrient and prefers low pH soil conditions (pH around 5.0 to 5.5
verses 6 to 6.50 for bermuda) and will go dormant similar to bermuda and in some cases will go dormant, before
bermuda if in shaded areas. The recommended application rate for centipede, based on literature found on the NCDA
website is 0.50lbs/1000Ft2 or 21.78 lbs./acre (say 22 lbs./acre). With Mr. Chatillier grazing horses and cattle on Fields B
& C that have centipede; the application rate is reduced by 25%, so the applicable rate should be,around
16.50lbs/acre. The NCDA bulletin also recommends applying nutrients to centipede in June. Also, here is the N.C. State
website that addresses nutrient application to turfgrass/sod
(http://nutrients.soil.ncsu.edu/crops/sodwastel217guidance.pdf ) as it relates to centipede.
Based on the information provided in the Field Summary forms from the 2015 annual report; 54.50 lbs./acre was applied
in July on field B and 19.80 lbs./acre was applied in September on field C..-Field A was applied to in July at a rate of 29.70
lbs./acre for the bermuda, with is well under the RYE value for bermuda. From my discussions with Mr. Chatillier during
my site evaluation, he indicated that he cut the bermuda for hay verses grazing. If in fact he is cutting the bermuda for
hay production, the full value of riutrients,ca'n be applied either at the common bermuda rate of 160 lbs./acre/yr. or 219
lbs./acre/yr. rate for hybrid (coastal) bermuda, depending on which variety Field A has (with three to four application
events over the course of the growing season, preferably after each cutting). Most bermuda grass stands in our region
are of the hybrid variety.
At this point, I recommend that you work with Mr. Chatillier to maximize application of residuals to his bermuda hay and
follow the recommendations provided for applying to the centipede provided in this email. If Mr. Chatillier or Spring
Lake wish to drill in rye or oats on the centipede pastures for winter/spring grazing (as the primary crop); -then the
appropriate application rate for fall/winter over -seeds can be utilized. If the centipede is applied to as the primary crop
(no more than 22 lbs./acre or 16.50 lbs./acre if grazed), then the over -seed crop would be limited to 50 lbs./acre.
If we need to have further discussion concerning this matter, please give me a call at 910-433-3340 or Tony Honeycutt at
910-433-3339. 1 will be out of the office this afternoon and all day Thursday, returning Friday.

Rob;
I just received the field summary pages of the 2015 annual report from central office concerning the David Chatillier
farm that you applied,to last year and intend to apply to this week. I have a couple of questions:
1). For fields B and C, the summary forms indicate "cool season grass" as the receiver crop for each field. What is/was
the cool season grass that was land applied to in July and September of 2015?
2). Has Mr. Chatillier established or is he trying to establish a new pasture gras's in fields B & C other than the centipede
grass that existed when I did my site,evaluation in May 2015?
3). Did Mr. Chatillier or Viridian over -seed fields B & C with rye or oats as a fall grass/hay crop?
Just trying to get a handle on the crops applied to. Until the questions above are discussed and addresses, please limit
youranticipated application event at the David Chatillier farm this week to the berm.uda grass field at the back of the
farm (Field A).
Thanks for your assistance.

Rob;
Thanks for the email. Are these the fields at Mr. Dave Chatellier's farm? If so, has he converted any of the
pasture(s) that had centipede in them when I did my site visit? The back field had a good stand of bermuda
grass, but the front pastures/fields had centipede and the small field Inear his son's house had centipede if I recall
correctly.
Thanks

Did you visit the David Chatillier farm when Viridian applied to the three fields last year? Just trying to determine what
the "cool.season grass" is/was that Viridian land applied to. Did the farmer or Viridian drill in a fall over -seed on fields B
