MARK FORESTIERI RECE'VED/®pm✓®WR WAKE COUNTY FACILITIES DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION SEP 2 7 2018 PO Box 550 RALEIGH,NORTH CAROLINA 27602 Water Resources Permitting Section Subject: Compliance Evaluation Inspection NPDES Wastewater Treatment System Bayleaf Fire Station No. 1 Certificate of Coverage No. NCG551416 Wake County Dear Mr. Forestieri: On June 20, 2018 Cory Larsen, PE from Wake County Department of Environmental Services, on behalf of the Division of Water Resources, visited the subject wastewater treatment system to evaluate compliance with the above permit to discharge wastewater. Cory Brantley was present for the inspection and his assistance was appreciated. The following comments are highlighted as a result of the inspection(also refer to the attached inspection report). The treatment units were operating normally at the time of the inspection however, recent effluent results indicated above-limit fecal coliform concentration in the effluent. The operator explained that the sample was collected with the EZ Treat control panel run in "Test Mode" which creates turbulence and is believed to have artificially agitated the biofilm contained in the recirculation tank. This tank was pumped of solids during the last year as required. The inspector believed the result may have been a false exceedance. The operator was instructed to sample effluent in a different manner to reflect normal discharge conditions. Please make efforts to collect effluent samples from the discharge pipe during normal discharge conditions and report the next monitoring event results directly to Cory Larsen at cory.larsen a,wakegov.com or 919-480-9998.
