Influent manhole to headworks.
Cause or Reason for the Upset/Spill/Bypass:
Bypass was due to 6.1 inches of rainfall from Tropical Storm Florence in 72 hours. This resulted in hydraulic
overload of the WWTT. Note: The flow chart maxed out at 11.0 mgd (plant design is 5 mgd).
Describe the Repairs Made or Actions Taken:
We utilized all treatment processes at WWTT. Staff diverted flow to EQ basin and secondary clarifier # 2 to
help relieve hydraulic overload.

Action Taken to Contain Spill, Clean Up and Remediate the Site (if applicable):
The stream came out of its banks and flooded the WWTT headworks, operations building and maintenance
building. Once the stream's flow receded, the bypass ceased and the WWTT was able to contain the
elevated flow.
