Cause or Reason for the Upset/Spill/Bypass: Extremely high flows from heavy rain associated with Hurricane
Florence resulted in WWTP effluent flows in excess of 18MGD, exceeding the capacities of Plant pumps; in
addition, Dye Creek flooded and backed up to WWTP outfall

Action Taken to Contain Spill, Clean Up and Remediate the Site (if applicable):
Action Taken or Proposed to be Taken to Prevent Occurrences: Will rent or purchase additional pumps in
the event of another hurricane event; we had previously always stationed our pumps to assist the influent
pumps
Additional Comments About the Event: The Town experienced over 6.5 inches of rain during the Hurricane
Florence event on 9/14-9/16; during the bypass event, a band of heavy showers covered the plant, inundating
us with flows greater than 18MGD
