Hello,
Yes, and I agree with issuance as WW.
Originally a NCG02 was not requested for this operation. And during review of the Mining Permit, I was concerned that
there would be no controls in place to protect.
Sincerely,
Thom

Subject: Tanglewood Sand Mine NCG020927 NOI
Thom,
I am trying to catch up on the mining applications in my backlog. Tanglewood Sand in Pasquotank County is a little
different. It's actually three above -ground stockpiles of sand and sandy topsoil that will be excavated to return the land
to cultivated farm. Here's a link to the permit application file. Ken Ellliott is the consultant for this one, too.
I wanted to make sure you all in the WaRO did not have any concerns about wetlands in the vicinity or other
concerns. The NOI notes wetlands are 40' from the perimeter, but there is no pit or pumping. The only thing to note
here is that the discharges from the stockpiles during the operation (i.e., the mine "face"/excavation area) would be
considered wastewater and subject to limits — not stormwater as the application notes the outfalls. Water will be
drained from within an intentionally bermed area, and the NCG02 guidance addresses this type of discharge on page 2,
item #19. 1 will touch base with Mr. Elliott about this and clarify it in the cover letter. Discharges flow to Knobb's Creek,
class C;Sw waters.
Is it okay to proceed with issuance of the NCG02 COC for this one?
Have a great weekend,
Bg
