NOTICE OF A DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE PROPOSED
EXTENSION OF SR 1163 (OLD GEORGETOWN ROAD)
FROM SR 1184 (OCEAN ISLE BEACH ROAD) TO NC 179

Brunswick County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a Design
Public Hearing on Monday, July 27, 2009 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the National Guard
Armory, located at 5050 Main Street, Shallotte, 28470.
NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal setting to answer
questions and receive comments about the proposed project. The opportunity to submit
written comments or questions also will be provided. Interested citizens may attend at
any time during the above mentioned hours. No formal presentation will be made.
This project proposes a new route extending SR 1163 (Old Georgetown Road)
from SR 1184 (Ocean Isle Beach Road) to NC 179. The proposed roadway will be a
two-lane roadway with 12-foot lanes and shoulders. The purpose and need of the
project is to alleviate-traffic congestion along-existing NC 179.by.providing_an alternate
route and establish a more direct travel route between the towns of Shallotte and
Calabash.
A map displaying the location and design of the project and a copy of the
environmental document, the State Environmental Assessment (SEA), is available for
public review at the NCDOT County Maintenance Yard located at 429, North Mulberry
Road Northwest, Shallotte, 28470; Brunswick County Planning Office located in Building
I at 75 Courthouse Drive, NE, Bolivia, 28422; and at the NCDOT Division Engineer's
Office - Highway Division 3 located at 124 Division Drive, Wilmington, 28401. Maps are

Anyone desiring additional information may contact Mr. Jamille Robbins, Human

submitted to Mr. Robbins until August 27, 2009.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with

arrangements can be made.
