SUBJECT: Notiiication of Start of Study Activities for STIP No. U-5101, Roadway
Improvements for SR 1437 (Shaw Road) / SR 1614 (Shaw Mill Road) / SR 1615
(Rosehill Road / Stacey Weaver Road) from NC 24 (Bragg Boulevard) to US

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is proposing a continuous multilane
facility along the east-west corridor of SR 1437 (Shaw Road), SR 1614 (Shaw Mill Road), and
SR 1615 (Rosehill Road / Stacey Weaver Road) between NC 24 (Bragg Blvd) and US 401
(Ramsey Street) in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This project is approximately 5.5 miles long
and the project alternatives may include a multi-lane divided cross-section and possibly an
interchange at NC 210 (Murchison Road) to provide grade separation for the railroad. Right of
way is scheduled for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 and construction is scheduled for FY 2024.
We would appreciate any information you might have that would be helpful in evaluating
potential environmental impacts of the project. At this time, it is anticipated that a State
Environmental Assessment/ Finding of No Significant Impact (SEA/FONSI) will be prepared for
this project. The project will likely require the following permits: USACE Section 404 permit
and NCDENR Section 401 Water Quality Certification.
The project is not proposed to go through the merger process. Therefore, a formal scoping
meeting is not planned. Please respond via email by August 17, 2018, so that your comments can
be used in the selection of alternatives to be studied for this project. A PDF of the study area
map is attached for your reference.
