Dear Mrs. Knight:
Duke Energy is adding an Ultrafiltration (UF) to the existing Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD)
wastewater treatment system at the subject facility. This change was communicated to the
Division of Water Resources as part of the NPDES permit application for Belews Creek Steam
Station (BCSS) dated August 29, 2016. The installation of the UF unit will be completed in
August 2018. This letter is intended to provide a courtesy notification of the process startup.
The UF system will be commissioned in August with a projected system startup of mid-
September 2018. The compliance sampling location for internal outfall 002 will be relocated to
post UF treatment. The Belews Creek Steam Station is already classified as a Class II
Physical/Chemical wastewater system so no change in classification is necessary.
