Reference the Department of the Arnry permit issued on June 15, 2007, for the replacement
ol'Bridge No. 198 on SR 1 172 (TIP B-0682) crossing the Intracoastal Waterway into Sunset
Beach, Brunswick County, North Carolina. Reference is also made to the email request of
February 16, 2009 fi'om Mason Herndon, Division 3 Environmental Officer (DEO), for a permit
modification to extend the temporary work trestle 20' on both sides further into the waterway.
According to the request, this modification is proposed to increase safety sm-Irounding the lifting
of girders planned for installation late fall 2009 into early 2010.
We have determined that the proposed change is minor, and that a supplemental public
notice is not necessary. Accordingly, your permit is hereby modified to include the
aforementioned changes as described in the February 16, 2009, modification request. It is
Understood that all other conditions of the original permit and previous modifications remain
applicable, including the permit expiration date of December 31, 2012. As discussed with the
Division 3 DEO and the bridge contractor a commitment was made to install the additional
length into the waterway when the girders are lifted in to place in the fall of 2009. Therefore,
construction on the extension may commence no sooner than October 1, 2009 and the extension
must be removed no later than .lanuary 31, 2010 and be accomplish in accordance with the
attached plans. Please note that you should undertake any additional coordination necessary
with the US Coast Guard as soon as possible to avoid potential delays in construction. This
modification approval will be Utilized for future compliance of the project.
