SECRETARY MAR 2 ii 250.9 DENR - WATER 6A+:.i PY ;ATLANDS AND STOR?:N,'ATEH BRANCH ®y- /`$c.,f v. 3 The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) proposes to rehabilitate NC 218 in Mecklenburg, Union and Anson Counties by repairing deteriorated sections of the existing roadway and overlaying the project with 4.5 inches of asphalt paving. The current travel lanes will remain the same width and turn lanes will be added at the intersections of NC 218 and US 601 as well as NC 218 and NC 205. The total project length is 30 miles. Protected Species A portion of the project occurs within the Goose Creek watershed in the Yadkin Pee-Dee River Basin and provides habitat for the federally endangered Lasmigona decorate (Carolina heelsplitter). Based upon a project review conducted along with representatives from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service Asheville Field Office, a Biological Conclusion of "Not Likely to Adversely Effect" has been rendered for this project. Impacts to Waters of the United States This project cannot be completed without impacts to waters of the United States. This project is located within the Yadkin River Basin (Hydrologic Unit # 03040105) and stream impacts to unnamed tributaries to Duck Creek, Richardson Creek and Rocky Branch will be incurred as a result of this project being constructed. Avoidance/Minimization The proposed impacts to the jurisdictional areas on this project have been minimized as much as practical.
