Narrative description The applicant's property is a one-acre parcel located adjacent to -Tarpon Canal and Lupton Drive in the Town of Oriental in Pamlico County. The property is actually two lots on which single family residential structures have been built. Properties are characterized by 12-141- elevations which are vegetated by domestic yard species. The properties border the head of Tarpon Canal which forms a cul-de- sac in this area. The applicant has an existing pier which extends along the shoreline of both lots. Surface runoff over the years has caused this basin area to fill in immediately adjacent to the pier structure, and the applicant now proposes to excavate this by a hydraulic suction pump and dispose of the material in a diked spoil area. 10. Anticipated impacts Constructing the project as proposed will disturb about 525 sq.ft. of existing subtidal, manmade canal bottom. Sediments in the canal bottom are composed of clay and sand. The spoil disposal area will be approximately 30' square and is capable.of handling about 30 cu. yds. of spoil which is proposed to be removed from the dredged area. Tarpon Canal is.a tributary of Whittaker Creek which is currently classified as SA according to DEM and is closed to shellfishing by the Div. of Health Services and is designated as a primary nur- sery area by DMF. t r i _ Submitted by Nelson G.
