This letter is in reference to the September 21, 2017 notification and conversationsPermtwith Mr.

Shannon Langley of Duke Energy regarding construction projects in order to comply with
requirements of the North Carolina Coal Ash Management Act (CAMA), specifically redirecting
wastewaters from the ash basins. A temporary construction dewatering well network was
installed to sufficiently lower the groundwater table in order to construct the lined retention basin
for the Site's overall water redirect project.
Construction dewatering for the lined retention basin installation commenced on August 28,
2017, pumping began October 25, 2017, and concluded on July 8, 2018. The dewatering
equipment will be disassembled and removed from the site. These dewatering wells will be
abandoned per 15A NCAC 02C .0113 and well abandonment records will be submitted as
required per 15A NCAC 02C .0114.
