A recent file review found that the Division of Water Quality (DWQ) compliance reporting database
has flagged the September 2012 Radiator Specialty Company discharge monitoring report (DMR)
with a permit monitoring violation for the monthly reporting of tetrachloroethene. The compliance
system generates violations after the data from your monthly DMRs have been entered and
compared with the requirements of your permit, NC0088838.
A physical review of the September DMR found that Radiator Specialty Company reported a
tetrachloroethene concentration on September 20, 2012, using the EPA parameter code of 34475
(noted at the top of the reporting column). However, the DWQ compliance reporting database has
been programmed to require tetrachloroethene concentrations be reported using EPA parameter
code 78389. Your reporting code must match the code in our compliance database for the data entry
staff to log your monitoring results and credit you with the required monitoring.
From this point forward, please change your reporting code for tetrachloroethene from 34475 to
78389 to prevent monitoring violations from being generated in our compliance database and being
passed along to the EPA Echo compliance database available at http://www.epa-echo.gov/echo/. If
