Identification of the presence of pyrite in the rock material which may be disturbed has been identified by Duke Energy. This material is known to oxidize in the presence of the atmosphere to produce an acid bearing rock with the potential of decreasing water pH. The proposed monthly monitoring of the lake and construction site for water temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity and pH will be adequate for identifying any potential changes to water quality related to this potential acidification. DWR is scheduled to monitor the Little Tennessee River Basin in 2019, and will be available to collect water quality data at Cedar Cliff Lake, which is one of our historically monitored lakes in that river basin.
