The Collection System is a vacuum sewer system with 1530 valve pits in operation with 10 inch,8inch, 6
inch, and 4 inch mains.There are four main pump stations.Station I, under the bridge, is the largest with
four vacuum pumps,two sewage pumps,and a wet well with double pumps.Station ll and III have two
vacuum pumps and two sewage pumps.Station IV has two vacuum pumps,two sewage pumps and a
wet well with two pumps.The town has a backup generator with auto transfer switches at all four
stations.The town has 2 diesel powered pumps for emergency use and also a vacuum truck.The town
has two spare vacuum pumps and a spare sewage pump for all four stations. In the year 2017 the towns
public utilities waste water collection system experienced continued growth.Several new homes were
added to the system.
System Performance Year January 12017 till January 12018.
• The Town received its Wastewater Collection System permit on June 26,2006
• The public works department inspected and maintained all valve pits and cleanouts.
• The Town inspected and replaced several damaged sewer pits.
• The Town is in the process of identifying potential problems within the stations.
• The Town has complied with all conditions and requirements of the said permit.
During the past year,the Town of Holden Beach collection system did not have any permit violations
or sewer spills.
As the system continues to grow we are committed to provide the customers of Holden Beach with the
highest level of service possible. It is the towns' intent to provide a copy of this report to the state of
North Carolina by mail in July 2018, and to our customers.
