Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need anything else. General Review: 1. It appears that section I (d through h) of the submitted FTSE has not been updated since the recently submitted FTSE from Cameron Woods Phase 3B project. Please revise as necessary. Brunswick County has explained the discrepancy and an email has been attached with this submittal. 2. Please provide pipe names, node numbers associated with the proposed Cameron Woods Phase 6B project, as it is not clearly depicted on the provided Waterbrook Woods hydraulic modeling_ A revised copy of the Waterbrook Woods hydraulic modeling with Phase 6B highlighted has been attached. Sincerely, r , 1. Careful review of the layout plans and profile for this parcel confirm that low pressure sewer is definitely a cost effective alternative versus a conventional gravity system. This approach is not only a technical solution, but also allows for many economic/ cost advantages that can be realized by the Brunswick County. 2.0 System Analysis: Based on the data below, furnished by Cape Fear Engineering, we have performed a complete hydraulic analysis including branch and mainline pipe sizing. This design analysis is based on using the EPA recommended rational method using the simplified equation Q=AN+B. A detailed explanation of this formula is included with this report. The actual model was analyzed with KY Pipe, the gold standard of hydraulic modeling. Data furnished to enable design analysis includes but not limited to: • 210# GPD per connection • 384 Connections • SDR-21 Pipe Type • 120C-Factor • 1 Terminal end location at 11 PSI • 1 Drawing The pump recommended is capable of delivering 31 GPM against a total dynamic head of 0 feet (0 PSIG) and 23 GPM against a total dynamic head of 150 feet (65 PSIG). This pump is also capable of operating at negative total dynamic head without overloading the motor, due to our design including an integral anti -siphon valve. Good engineering practice suggests the installation of cleanouts and flushing connections, which typically are located at the end of each main, at all intersections, and at sharp changes in directions as well. In line connections should be placed at 800 to 1,000 foot intervals depending on terrain and system layout, as recommended by the EPA. 3.0 LPS Major components recommended: • 384 Brunswick County engineered Units with OGP Pump • 38,400 Linear feet of 1 /2 " SDR-21 ( House laterals) • 12,933 Linear feet of 2" SDR-21 • 2,906 Linear feet of 3" SDR-21 • 2,961 Linear feet of 4" SDR-21 • 2,126 Linear feet of 6" SDR-21 0 384 Lateral Valve Kits CRANE m PUMPS & SYSTEMS Pressure Systems Design How does Crane determine design Flow ? There are various equations, charts, and formulas that exist when trying to determine design flow in a low pressure sewer system. In addition, local departments of environmental regulations may offer site specific guidelines when determining design flow. EPA recognizes the following formula as it "has almost exclusively become the accepted method of practice." Where Q=AN+B Q=Predicted Flow, A=coefficient selected by engineer ( typically .5) B=Factor selected by engineer ( typically 20) N=Number of EDUs or lots EPA Manual 625/1-91/024 CRANE PUMPS & SYSTEMS Pressure Systems Design Rational Method Baseline Formula Q=AN+B • Q = Predicted flow derived from input data below • A = A coefficient that adjusts based on average daily flow Adjusts based on correlation average daily flow versus peak factor EPA national average is 67GPCD or 268 GPD/EDU » Typically 0.5 • N = Number of Equivalent Domestic Units or lots B = Minimum flow one pump will produce with maximum static head and no friction loss • Assures that each beginning mainline will be flushed at least once daily • This condition typically occurs during the middle of the night • This factor is selected by the designer ( Typically 20) • Recommended ranges » PC Pumps (10 —14 GPM) Hi Head centrifugal Pumps (10 — 30 GPM) » Hi Flow centrifugal Pumps (20 - 40 GPM) ASSUMPTIONS FOR DESIGN OF PRESSURE SEWER SYSTEM USING THE RATIONAL METHOD AND INSTRUCTIONS STEP 1: Project Location: BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC Project Name: rtivL1UJ J G STEP 2: Assume an Average Daily Flow Per Equivalent Domestic Unit (EDU) Gallons per Day per EDU This affects the retention times in the mainlines and the 'A" constant in the Rational Method. I.E., The larger the flow per EDU the higher the Peak Flow Rate will be for a given EDU size. 200 GPD per EDU is recommended. STEP 3: Select the minimum flow one pump will produce with the maximum Static Head and no Friction Loss. AN + B = Q (Q is in Gallons Per Minute) A= 0.525 Constant (Automatically adjusted by the Average Daily Flow per EDU) N= XX Number of EDU's on a given pipe segment B= GPM of one pump This will occur in the middle of the night when that one pump at the beginning of the smallest main comes on. This assures that every beginning main will be flushed at least once per day. Recommended value ranges are, for PC pumps, for high head centrifugal pumps, and 204G for high flow centrifugal pumps. STEP 4: Select the "C" factor for the friction loss in the Hazen -Williams Equation. C=Hazen-Williams Constant A value of is recommended.
