From: Cyndi Karoly <cyndi.karoly@ncmail.net> Date: Wed, 10 Dec 2008 15:04:01 -0500 To: Eric Kulz <Eric.Kulz@ncmail.net>, Tammy L Hill <Tammy.L.Hill@ncmail.net> I got a call from Jane Bernard in the Aquifer Protection Section of DWQ at the RRO. She called to advise us that the proposed wetland mitigation bank borders a hog farm as well as poultry facilities, a fact not mentioned in the public notice. So there will be hog and chicken waste issues in the area. The application was received here 11/20/08 and shows Eric as the reviewer, but I didn't see streams listed on the notice. Jane was concerned because the hog farm operator had not been apprised of the planned wetland restoration work, and the hog farm rules require 50 foot separation (buffer - not our kind of buffers) from waters of the state. The hog farmer doesn't own the farm, he leases it from Mr. Godwin, the man planning the mitigation bank. You guys might want to contact Jane at 791-4236 to coordinate efforts and ensure that the project won't be violating other DWQ rules. I'll be happy to discuss with you as far as I can - the hog farm is the triangular polygon on Figure 7 on the public notice. The lagoons and chicken yards are under the legend and thus not visible on the maps we have. 1 of 1 12/29/2008 4:26 PM
