4d. List the total estimated acreage of all existing wetlands on the property:
total for property is unknown. total for project area is approximately 0.5 acre
4e. List the total estimated linear feet of all existing streams on the property:
(interrrittent and perennial)
unknown
4f. Explain the purpose of the proposed project:*
Martin Marietta currently operates a rail yard associated Wth this project where hard rock is brought in by rail from
our Lemon Springs Quarry near Sanford, NC. This yard supplies granite aggregate to the southeastern NC market
where only softer limestone can be mined. Martin Marietta is contracted with CSX to move this aggregate. The
length of the existing rail line allows for 78 rail cars to be unloaded at the facility. In order to more efficiently haul
this aggregate, CSX has Martin Marietta to increase the number or cars that we can unload from 78 to 82.
4g. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used:*
Changing from 78 to 82 cars will require an extra 225 feet of track to be added to the end of the rail line. Also,
Martin Marietta currently maintains its own locomotive at the site to load and unload the rail cars. Maintenance of
this locomotive and the rail cars requires that we build a road on one side of the tracks large enough for a service
truck to travel. The rail and road together will result in a 50 ft wide disturbance area.

E. Impact Justification and Mitigation
1. Avoidance and Minimization
1a. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts in designing the project:*
Martin Marietta has attempted to align this rail extension to minimize impacts to wetlands. The alignment of the
ebsting track avoided impacts to wetland C which has more hydrology than the other smaller wetlands which we
are proposing to impact.
1b. Specifically describe measures taken to avoid or minimize the proposed impacts through construction techniques:*
Martin Marietta will use appropriate sediment and erosion controls during construction. All exposed soil will be
stabilized quickly. To the extent possible, work will occur during times of dry or low flow. No wetland clearing will
occur outside of the proposed construction limits.
2. Compensatory Mitigation for Impacts to Waters of the U.S. or Waters of the State
