Settled sludge and filtered backwash water is discharged to two lagoons where settling
occurs. The supernate is drafted off through discharge gates and dechlorinated, using
calcium thiosulfate, prior to its release at the disdharge weir.

Coddle Creek Water Treatment Plant Lagoon System Sludge Removal Plan
NPDES permit# NC0083119
The City of Concord contracts with a private company,to remove sludge from the Coddle Creek
Water Treatment Plant (WTP) lagoons. The sludge removal contract is bid out to various firms;
the low bidder on the current project is Bio-Nomic Services, Inc. (516 Roundtree Road,
Charlotte, NC 28217-2133).
Sludge has been removed from the Coddle Creek lagoon approximately every 11/2 years. The
quantities of sludge average between 4500—5500 tons. The sludge is deposited at the BFI
landfill in Concord, NC.
