On April 23, 2018, this Office received an odor complaint in regards to Country Wood Wastewater Treatment
facility. The complaint was investigated by Mr. Roberto Scheller of this Office on April 24, 2018 at 1:10 pm.
Ten (10) sites within Country Wood Subdivision were sampled for objectional wastewater odors. Sample sites
consist of 4 tests sites down Redwood Drive; 4 test sites at the end of Hawthorne Drive; and 2 test sites at the
wastewater treatment facility. No objectional wastewater odors were detected at any of the ten sites sampled.
Please be advised that in accordance with your current NPDES Permit #NC0065684, Part II Section B., Item 5.
Property Rights "The issuance of this permit does not convey any property rights in either real or personal property,
or any exclusive privileges, nor does it authorize any injury to private property or any invasion of personal rights,
nor any infringement of Federal, State of local laws or regulations [40 CFR 122.41 (g)]."
A properly operated extended air plant should not produce strong objectional odors, with the exceptions of
restarting aerobic digesters or transferring sludge. It is recommended that the permittee confer with customers
within the Country Wood Subdivision to help determine the source of odors and address them directly.
