The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division 6 has started the project development,
environmental and engineering studies for the subject project. Project U-5933 proposes to improve the
intersection of N.C. 87 and S.R. lll7 (Nursery Road) in Harnett County by upgrading the intersection
to a signalized "Green Tee" intersection with U-turn bulbs north and south of Nursery Road. The
proposed "Green Tee" intersection will add a partial median at the N.C. 87 and Nursery Road
intersection. Full movements will be allowed to and from Nursery Road to the east, but movements
will be limited to and from the entrance into Fort Bragg. Additional U-turn bulbs will be added north
and south of the intersection. Improvements also include a second left turn lane from Nursery Road
onto southbound N.C. 87. U-turn bulbs are also proposed to be added north and south of Nursery
Road on N.C. 87.
This project is included in NCDOT's 2018-2027 STIP and is scheduled to begin right of way
acquisition in fiscal year 2019 with construction beginning in fiscal year 2020. A scoping meeting is
not anticipated at this time.
Please take time to review the attached maps. We would appreciate any information you might have
that would be helpful in evaluating potential environmental impacts of the project. If applicable, please
identify any permits or approvals that may be required by your agency. This project is state funded,
and a State Minimum Criteria Determination Checklist is anticipated.
