Current ewsting bridge is a single span 16'-6" timber floor on timber joist structure located on a paved secondary
road. Site is located within a rural residential housing community.

Replace an obsolete and deteriorating wood joisted bridge structure.

4g. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used:*
NCDOT contractor will install diversion dike and by-pass pipe. Once diversion is in place the contractor will remove
a portion of the existing bridge structure and begin construction of the new structure. Once new portion of new
structure is completed, traffic will be placed on it and the new structure will be completed. Backfill materials will be
placed into culvert and riprap will be placed for bank stabilization. Bank stabilization material will be permanently
installed once final grading allows. Diversion dike and by-pass pipe will be removed and stream will be placed into
box culvert structure. Box culvert structure will be constructed by utilization of the following equipment: crane,
excavator, dump truck and hand tools.

The ewsting bridge is being replaced with a structure that is adequate for traffic need in the same disturbed
location as the epsting bridge structure. Reinforced concrete box culvert was designed for the minimum size to
ensure conveyance of traffic on the current secondary road.

The on-site stream (West Prong Grape Creek) will be diverted wtiile the existing bridge is removed and new box
culvert structure is constructed. In-stream wnrk will be completed in the dry. Erosion and sedimentation control
measures will be installed prior to ground disturbing activities commence. Both of these measures will aid in the
prevention of sediment into downstream habitats.
