Give me a call when you have a few minutes to discuss the Blowing Rock Country Club stream restoration project. Ben Barnes, the course superintendent, has ask about sodding additional areas due to the fact that we didn’t get a lot of germination last year. The members are complaining about the look of the area along the restored stream. Ben would like to sod the area. He will work around the live stakes. This sod will be allowed to grow taller than the fairway and rough grass. We think this will be a way to get the entire area covered with herbaceous vegetation quickly. Ben Barnes has reached out to me for an update. This request, as before, will allow for the lower slope along the stream to become a playable area when players' shots miss the green or fairway. The need for a playable area became apparent during the golf season in 2017. Additionally, the seed that was planted during construction has not completely covered the area. The bare areas are unsightly to the members and are a potential source for erosion. The desire is to let the sodded and existing herbaceous vegetation grow 4-6" tall within the between the fairway and the stream. The sod will be placed over the coir matting and around the live stakes to allow for the greatest bank stability. The below photographs show some of the bare areas. The attached map indicates the approximate size and location of the areas requested to be planted with sod which is essentially along the entire reach of stream in the areas that are bare, unsightly, and need ground cover to prevent erosion. Please call to discuss if you have any questions.
