1. GRADING CONTRACTOR SHALL CHECK/ IDENTIFY FOR ALL UNDERGROUND UTILITIES PRIOR TO
BEGINNING THE CLEARING / GRADING.

SURFACE STABILIZATION MEASURES
Seeding will be completed immediately following site reclamation and prior to project completion. Temporary or
intermediate seeding, mulching, matting, or other surtace stabilization measures will be placed on disturbed areas
following initial soil disturbance. Prior to seeding, all surfaces shall be scarified to a depth of four to six inches to
enhance seed germination and help impede stormwater runoff. Seeding mixtures will be tailored to site-specific
conditions, steepness of slopes, climate, location, and elevation. Typical seeding guidelines are as follows:
February through mid-April

Sericea lespedeza (scarified) 30 Ib/acre

RYE GRASS shall NOT be used. Special exceptions may be allowed ONLY with the approval of the Engineer
and shall be considered "temporary" seeding only. Prior to completion of project, all areas seeded with rye
grass shall be reseeded for permanent stabilization per above schedule.
Nurse crops shall be added to aid the establishment of permanent vegetation. General guidelines for nurse
crop seeding rates are as follows.
May through mid-August

In the absence of soil tests, fertilizer and lime will
generally be applied at the following rates:
10-10-10 Fertilizer 500 Ib/acre
Ground agricultural limestone 2000 Ib/acre
Liquid lime or alternative fertilizers may be substituted in various situations. Mulch or matting shall be
applied to all seeded areas to aid in the establishment of vegetation and help impede erosion. Vegetative
mulch, typically wheat or oat straw, shall be applied at the rate of 3,000 to 4,000 Ibs/acre.
NOTE: SEEDING FOR GROUNDCOVER ON EXPOSED SLOPES SHALL BE PERFORMED WITHIN 15 DAYS
FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF ANY PHASE OF GRADING.

5. INSTALL THE SITE CUT-SLOPE DIVERSION SWALE TO DIVERT STORMWATER FROM THE SITE TO HELP KEEP STORMWATER
OFF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE. CUT-SLOPE SWALE MUST BE IMMEDIATELY MATTED/SEEDED FOR STABILITY.
6. BEGIN SITE CLEARING AND GRUBBING OPERATIONS.
7. PERFORM SUBSTATION GRADING AND EARTHWORK, INCLUDING ALL FILL AND EXCAVATION.
8. COMPLETE SUBSTATION ACCESS DRIVES, INCLUDING THE INSTALLATION OF ALL CULVERTS AND SWALES. STABILIZE
ACCESS WITH GRAVEL PAVING.
9. INSTALL SUBSTATION PAD SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE AND PIPING SYSTEM.
10. UPON COMPLETION OF SITE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES, ALL DISTURBED SURFACES SHALL BE STABILIZED VIA SEEDING,
FERTILIZING AND MULCHING. IN GENERAL, ALL DISTURBED AREAS MUST BE STABILIZED WITHIN 14 DAYS FOLLOWING
COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION. SWALES, DITCHES AND SLOPES STEEPER THAN 2:1 MUST BE SEEDED WITHIN 7 DAYS.

OF THE TRENCH. ANCHOR THE RECPS WITH A ROW OF STAPLES/STAKES APPROXIMATELY 12"
(30CM) APARTIN THE BOTTOM OF THE TRENCH. BACKFILL AND COMPACT THE TRENCH AFTER
STAPLING. APPLY SEED TO THE COMPACTED SOIL AND FOLD THE REMAINING 12"(30CM) PORTION OF
RECPS BACK OVER THE SEED AND COMPACTED SOIL. SECURE RECPS OVER COMPACTED SOIL WITH A
ROW OF STAPLES/STAKES SPACED APPROXIMATELY 12"(30CM) APART ACROSS THE WIDTH OF THE
RECPS.
3.ROLL THE RECPS (A) DOWN OR (B) HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE SLOPE. RECPS WILL UNROLL WITH

1. PREPARE SOIL BEFORE INSTALLING ROLLED EROSION CONTROL PRODUCTS (RECPS),
INCLUDING ANY NECESSARY APPLICATION OF LIME, FERTILIZER, AND SEED.
2.BEGIN AT THE TOP OF THE CHANNEL BY ANCHORING THE RECPS IN A 6"(15CM) DEEP X
6"(15CM) WIDE TRENCH WITH APPROXIMATELY 12"(30CM) OF RECPS EXTENDED BEYOND
THE UP-SLOPE PORTION OF THE TRENCH. USE SHOREMAX MAT AT THE
CHANNEL/CULVERT OUTLET AS SUPPLEMENTAL SCOUR PROTECTION AS NEEDED. ANCHOR
THE RECPS WITH A ROW OF STAPLES/STAKES APPROXIMATELY 12"(30CM) APART IN THE
BOTTOM OF THE TRENCH. BACKFILL AND COMPACT THE TRENCH AFTER STAPLING. APPLY
SEED TO THE COMPACTED SOIL AND FOLD THE REMAINING 12"(30CM) PORTION OF RECPS
BACK OVER THE SEED AND COMPACTED SOIL. SECURE RECPS OVER COMPACTED SOIL
WITH A ROW OF STAPLES/STAKES SPACED APPROXIMATELY 12" APART ACROSS THE
WIDTH OF THE RECPS.
3.ROLL CENTER RECPS IN DIRECTION OF WATER FLOW IN BOTTOM OF CHANNEL. RECPS WILL
UNROLL WITH APPROPRIATE SIDE AGAINST THE SOIL SURFACE. ALL RECPS MUST BE
SECURELY FASTENED TO SOIL SURFACE BY PLACING STAPLES/STAKES IN APPROPRIATE
LOCATIONS AS SHOWN IN THE STAPLE PATTERN GUIDE.
4.PLACE CONSECUTIVE RECPS END-OVER-END (SHINGLE STYLE) WITH A 4"-6" OVERLAP.
USE A DOUBLE ROW OF STAPLES STAGGERED 4" APART AND 4" ON CENTER TO SECURE
RECPS.
S.FULL LENGTH EDGE OF RECPS AT TOP OF SIDE SLOPES MUST BE ANCHORED WITH A ROW
OF STAPLES/STAKES APPROXIMATELY 12"(30CM) APART IN A 6"(15CM) DEEP X 6"(15CM)
WIDE TRENCH. BACKFILL AND COMPACT THE TRENCH AFTER STAPLING.
6.ADJACENT RECPS MUST BE OVERLAPPED APPROXIMATELY 2"-5" (5-12.5CM) (DEPENDING
ON RECPS TYPE) AND STAPLED.
7.IN HIGH FLOW CHANNEL APPLICATIONS A STAPLE CHECK SLOT IS RECOMMENDED AT 30
TO 40 FOOT (9 -12M) INTERVALS. USE A DOUBLE ROW OF STAPLES STAGGERED
4"(10CM) APART AND 4"(10CM) ON CENTER OVER ENTIRE WIDTH OF THE CHANNEL.
8.THE TERMINAL END OF THE RECPS MUST BE ANCHORED WITH A ROW OF
STAPLES/STAKES APPROXIMATELY 12" (30CM) APART IN A 6"(15CM) DEEP X 6"(15CM)
WIDE TRENCH. BACKFILL AND COMPACT THE TRENCH AFTER STAPLING.
