PUMPING AND HAULING
PART 1 GENERAL
11 SUMMARY

1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. CONTRACTOR to submit a complete and detailed pump and haul plan to the ENGINEER for
review, prior to commencement of Work in this Section.
1 3 RESPONSIBILITY FOR OVERFLOWS AND SPILLS
A. It shall be the responsibility of the CONTRACTOR to schedule and perform his work so as to
result in no overflows or spills of sewage or combined sewage from the system
B. In the event of overflows caused by the CONTRACTOR's work activities, the CONTRACTOR
shall immediately take appropriate action, in accordance with the OWNER's SSO Emergency
Response Plan and all applicable regulatory requirements, to contain and stop the overflow,
clean up the spillage, disinfect the area affected by the spill, and notify OWNER immediately
upon first knowledge of overflow event.
C. CONTRACTOR will indemnify and hold harmless the OWNER for any fines or third -party
claims for personal or property damage arising from a spill or overflow that is fully or partially
the responsibility of the CONTRACTOR. Should fines subsequently be imposed, as a result of
any overflow for which the CONTRACTOR is fully or partially responsible, the CONTRACTOR
shall pay all such fines and all of the OWNER's legal, engineering, and administrative costs in
defending such fines and claims associated with the sanitary sewer spill.
PART2 PRODUCTS
2.1 EQUIPMENT
A Truck -Mounted Pump and Haul Equipment Shall Include:
1. 2400 gallon debris body capacity (ONWASA's Vacuum Truck)
2. 7500 gallon capacity (Contract Hauler)
3. 4000 gallon capacity (Contract Hauler)

31 GENERAL
A All pipe materials utilized in wastewater flow diversion during construction shall be in good
condition, and free of defects, and leaks Any defective material shall be replaced by the
CONTRACTOR at no cost to the OWNER. Upon completion of the job, pipe materials shall be
removed from the site

3.2 FLOW CONTROL PRECAUTIONS
A. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for taking sufficient precautions to protect public
health. The sewer lines shall also be protected from damage. The following shall apply:
1. No wastewater shall be allowed to back up into any homes or buildings.
2. No wastewater shall overflow any manholes, cleanouts, or any other access to the
sewers.
3. Users upstream of the pump and haul area shall be able to use all their water and sewer
utilities without interruption.
B. Any sump pumps, bypass pumps, trash pumps, or any other type of pump which pulls
wastewater or any type of material out of the manhole or sewer shall discharge the material
into another manhole, or appropriate vehicle or container approved by the ENGINEER. Under
no circumstances shall this material be discharged, stored, or deposited on the ground, swale,
road, or open environment.
C. The CONTRACTOR shall take appropriate steps to ensure that all pumps, piping, and hoses
that carry raw wastewater are protected from traffic
D. If during the execution of the Work any raw wastewater is spilled, discharged, leaked, or
otherwise deposited in the open environment, due to the CONTRACTOR's work, the
Contractor shall be responsible for any cleanup of solids and stabilization of the area affected.
This work shall be performed at the CONTRACTOR's expense with no additional cost to the
OWNER. The CONTRACTOR shall also be responsible for notifying the OWNER's sewer
system maintenance personnel and complying with any and all regulatory requirements for
cleaning up the spill at no additional cost to the OWNER.
E. The CONTRACTOR shall take proper precautions to prevent damage to existing sanitary
sewer facilities, flooding, or damage to public or private property.
F. The CONTRACTOR shall make repairs or replacements or rebuild such damaged section or
sections of existing sewers, as directed by the ENGINEER. All such repairs, replacements,
and rebuilding shall be paid for by the CONTRACTOR
G. The CONTRACTOR shall make such provisions as are necessary for handling all flows in
existing sewers, connections, and manholes by pipes, flumes, or by other approved methods
at all times, when his operations would, in anyway, interfere with normal functioning of those
facilities.
H. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for the removal of any debris and sedimentation in
the existing sewers, laterals, and manholes, etc., which is attributable to his work under this
Contract.
All operations shall be performed by the CONTRACTOR in strict accordance with OSHA and
any other applicable safety requirements. Particular attention is directed to safety regulations
for entering confined spaces.
