As you may be aware, the U.S. Navy is in the process of completing an Environmental Impact Statement'(EIS) for the purpose of constructing and operating an Outlying Landing Field (OLF) to support Field Carrier Landing Practice operations for carrier-based fixed-wing aircraft squadrons stationed at and transient to NAS Oceana and Naval Station Norfolk Chambers Field, Virginia. Information and updates on the proposed project are available on the project website at: http://www.OLFEIS.com At this point in the project, we are in the process of meeting with various State and Federal agencies to solicit comments on issues to be considered in the EIS, discuss field methodologies for the various survey efforts, and present project updates. Linda Pearsall with NC DENR indicated that you would be a good person to touch base with, specifically in regards for your input on NC wetland matters. I would like to invite you to attend our next interagency meeting tentatively scheduled for 7 Oct 2008. At this time we are still working on the meeting location which will be determined in the near future. I believe it may be in/around the Fort Lee area in Petersburg, VA but that has not been confirmed. Please let me know if you will be able to attend this and/or future meetings. Also, Linda indicated that NC DENR was in the process of developing a new wetland assessment methodology and that you would be the person to speak with regarding what this entails. Do you have some literature and/or a website that you could point me towards? Do you know of future training opportunities that we could attend? We greatly appreciate any input you can provide.
