Two 900 gal oil/grease traps - (Request removal from listing- see below) One splitter box for flow diversion with bar screen One 7,500 gal aeration basin with integral bar screen, two positive displacement blowers, clarifier with RAS and skimmer piping, contact chamber One 10,000 gal aeration basin with integral bar screen, two positive displacement blowers, clarifier with RAS and skimmer piping, contact chamber One 900 gal chlorine contact chamber-with tablet feeders for disinfection and de-chlorination One 900 gal aerobic digester- a septic tank of concrete construction One 900 gal holding tank- a septic tank of concrete construction One Flow measuring system comprised of a 22-1/2 degree v-notch weir and a Stevens Total Flow Meter with totalizer and chart recorder The oil/grease traps are septic tanks of concrete construction. They are part of the original construction and are now approximately 40 years old. On the last pumping of the contents, leaks were discovered in the horizontal seams of the tanks underground. The operators found that the typical anaerobic conditions in the septic tanks led to excessive ammonia passed to the aerobic systems without sufficient BOD to allow proper growth of activated sludge for good treatment. These units are currently by- passed. It is requested that their removal from the treatment train be considered. Additional data will be provided if required. The aeration basins and clarifiers are of steel construction and are a typical package plant design. The contact chambers listed were originally disinfection tanks with no means of de-chlorination and were replaced at some time in the past with the newer 900 gal chamber. These contact chambers are no longer used for chlorination. c The 900 gal aerobic digester has an air line from one of the aeration basins. Wasted sludge is manually pumped to this unit as required. This unit was infrequently used in the past. Estimate of removal for the parameter are: BOD 90 to 95% Nitrogen 40 to 60% TSS 90 to 95% The adjustment of pH for the aeration basins is through manual addition of soda ash or lime. The disinfection tablets are sodium hypochlorite and a sulfide for de- chlorination. Waste sludge from the treatment plant and contents of the septic tanks has been handled through periodic pumping and removal by Wesson Septic Tank Service with disposal at the Cliffside Sanitary District in Rutherford County. Outfall 002 for this permit has stormwater treatment from the runoff area at the diesel dispensers via an oil/water separator. The oil/water separator is approximately 95 to 98% effective in removal of oil/grease and TSS. The City of Kings Mountain has conducted discussions with Malik's International Inc. (Kings Mountain Travel Plaza) for a lift station to connect to the existing City system but the cost appears to be prohibitive for this alternative. The City is considering building additional facilities in the area and taking on the flow from this plant. Additional information will become available during the period of review. • NPDES APPLICATION - FORM D For privately-owned treatment systems treating 100% domestic wastewaters <1.0 MGD 10.
