Maury Sanitary Land District operates an existing 0.225 MGD WWTP in Green County off
Sylivant Farm Road or NCSR 1401. Originally, all drinking water in the service area was provided from
groundwater. Now the source of the water varies. It can be groundwater or surface water. When the
source is groundwater, alkalinity is adequate in the influent wastewater to accomplish nitrification. When
the drinking water source changes to surface water, the alkalinity in the influent wastewater is not
adequate for nitrification. For the last few years the operator has been supplementing the alkalinity by
adding two 50 pound bags of powdered lime per day, seven days per week. The District wants a method
of adding alkalinity that is not as labor intensive.
The District would like to install a chemical feed pump to feed a 25% solution of NaOH, along
with a 3,000 gallon dual walled NaOH storage tank in order to provide alkalinity needed to accomplish
nitrification. The existing bagged lime method of providing alkalinity will be retained as a backup.

B. Draft NPDES Permit No. NCO061492 Dated July 1, 2013. The NPDES Permit Application
has been submitted for renewal recently.

D. Necessary Specifications are included on the Plans Sheets. There are no separate
Specifications.
E. Design Basis

to the WTP, while retaining the existing method of providing alkalinity
