Permit # 55-03
Mr. Wescott:
As you are aware, the Department has monitored the West Fork Goose Creek Mitigation Site
since its construction in April of 2007. Located in Pamlico County, adjacent to NC 55 highway
widening project, this site provides 135 linear feet of stream mitigation for impacts associated
with the R-2539B project. The stream relocation was revegetated and the streambanks must be
considered stable at the end of the one year monitoring period. According to permit conditions,
NCDOT was required to monitor the West Fork Goose Creek Mitigation Site visually for one
year or until success criteria were met; hydrologic monitoring was not required for this project.
After the growing season, an annual monitoring report was submitted to the appropriate
regulatory agencies via the Natural Environment Unit's (NEU) website:
http://www.nedot orQ/doh/preconstruct/De/neulMonitorinklMonito7-inzReDorts html
After two years of vegetation monitoring, the West Fork Goose Creek Mitigation Site shows that
the channel remains very stable at this time. The second year of monitoring data is provided
within the annual monitoring reports available on NEU's website for 2008.
