NOTICE OF A CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP
FOR THE WIDENING OF US 221 FROM US 421 IN WATAUGA COUNTY TO
US 221 BUSINESS / NC 88 IN ASHE COUNTY

Ashe & Watauga Counties
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold the
above Citizens Informational Workshop on Thursday, March 26, 2009 between
the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Ashe County High
School, located at 184 Campus Drive, West Jefferson, 28694.
The purpose of this workshop is for the NCDOT project team to provide
additional information regarding the proposed project. A workshop for this
project was previously held on October 24, 2006. NCDOT representatives will be
available to explain the proposed "best-fit alignment" with the proposed typical
sections and answer any questions regarding this project. Please note: there will
be no formal presentation. You may come by at anytime between the hours of
5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to review the project maps on display and provide any
comments.
NCDOT proposes to widen approximately 16.1 miles of US 221 between
US 421 in Watauga County and US 221 Business / NC 88 in Ashe County. The
proposed addition of travel lanes would alleviate the growing congestion on
US 221, reducing the number of accidents, and providing safer travel between
the communities located along the route.
