The monitoring dates are as follows: Erosion Evaluation No. 1 - 5/1/06 - 5/2/06 Erosion Evaluation No. 2 - 6/26/06 - 6/27/06 Erosion Evaluation No. 3 - 11/27/09 & 11/29/09 Erosion Evaluation No. 4 - 12/28/06 & 1/4/07 Observations were made from canoe at 19 locations on the main stem of the Deep River, mostly at the confluence points of tributaries, as well as four land observation points (on tributaries from bridges). Of the 19 river observation points, 18 showed at least some level of erosion, scouring or bank failure. The majority of the tributaries exhibited head cutting, bank erosion/mass wasting, and sediment loss to the Deep River. I attempted to summarize the results in tabular form to try to derive some quantitative and progressive information regarding the conditions observed, but the locations of some of the points changed and were re-numbered. However, progression of instability and headcutting appeared to be occurring. No attempts to actually measure/quantify the amount of erosion were presented in the reports. Installation of rebar markers or other methods of measuring channel movement or incision appear warranted. Photographs are included in the reports. The bridge observation sites showed some minor erosion/undercutting of banks, but nothing like the areas near the confluences. Randy Turner's august 3, 2007 transmittal letter stated that the reports were "consistently confirming stability"; I would question that statement based on the reports.
