The existing 2@ 120" CMP sustained (Description of Minimization of Water severe damage during Hurricane Matthew, which resulted in the emergency replacement of the structures. Due to the severity of the damage and the impending loss of the Quality Impacts) roadway embankment into Falls Lake, the pipes were removed and the embankment was stabilized prior to the installation of the proposed structure. The proposed structure is a 1@105' 39" Box Beam structure that will span the newly constructed channel over Panther Creek/Falls Lake. Due to the environmental sensitivity of the site, site constraints and excessive costs of construction it was determined that a bridge structure would be the most practicable design alternative. Redwood Rd. is a causeway facility crossing Panther Creek/Falls Lake allowing for negligible opportunity to provide treatment for surface stormwater runoff. As a result of this site constraint, modified concrete flumes have been proposed to provide conveyance of surtace water runoff from the transportation facility. These flumes are extended to the rip rap slope protection that runs the entire length of the causeway facility. The extension of the flumes is necessary to prevent possible erosion of the shoulder due to surface water runoff as well as alleviate standing water in the travel lanes which would be viewed as a safety concern for the motoring public. All other natural drainage patterns have been maintained.
