On February 23, 2009, 1 inspected the construction work on NC Highway 146 project (Long Shoals Road) in
Buncombe County. Construction work on the 1-26 and Long Shoals Road bridges are continuing. Utility
construction is continuing along the new portion of Long Shoals Road.
Please continue to ensure that all sediment and erosion control structures are maintained and that seeding and
mulching are performed as needed to protect downstream waters. Please refer to the attached inspection report
for any specific items noted during the inspection.

Work continues on French Broad River and 1-26 bridges Most of the beams have been set over the river
Construction continuing along widening part of NC 146 on west side of French Broad River with utilities being
installed Roadbed continues to remain bare
Prefab box culvert installed under new roadway
Recommend seeding and/or matting around outlet area of box culvert to prevent material from getting into
stream Outlet area above culvert is bare soil Also the fill area on the south side of NC 146 above the pond has
bare steep slope and should be seeded and/or matted
Continue to maintain erosion control devices and continue with seeding and matting as required
Project looked to be in good condition and shape
